The Fability Team once again orchestrated a highly successful collaborative and all-inclusive event, the City of Johannesburg World Class #JoburgOpen10

Held from 14-17 January 2016, the Joburg Open, a prestigious tournament on the South African and European golf tours, marked its 10th edition and showcased Johannesburg to a vast international audience. According to Bongi Mokaba, Director of Events Management, the tournament has become a highly successful platform for marketing Johannesburg globally.

Taking place at the iconic Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Course, rated among the top-20 golfing venues in South Africa, the competition boasted a prize purse of Euro 1.5 million, distributed among players making the halfway cut. The winner, seizing the coveted trophy, also claimed over Euro 200,000.

With over 200 golfers from across the world teeing off for the first round, the top 70 scores at the halfway mark qualified for the final two rounds. Johannesburg stands out as the first city in South Africa to host its own golf tournament, starting in 2007. Key sponsors include BMW, the Hilton Hotel Group, Primedia, and The Pro Shop.

Executive Mayor Cllr Mpho Parks Tau emphasized the significance of showcasing Johannesburg as a world-class golf and leisure destination through this event. The South African golf industry, generating over R30 billion annually, aims to attract a share of the estimated 54 million golfers worldwide seeking new destinations.

Fability, invited by the City, showcased innovative ways for Persons with Disabilities to enjoy golf, alongside highlighting the diverse services offered by Fability. South African singer Mathys Roets and Jeff Yates were featured on SuperSport, demonstrating the use of motorized wheelchairs, with pro golfer Brandon Stone joining in on a round of golf using the chair. Morné Marais shared insights about Fability and its services during the SuperSport segment, contributing to the success of the Joburg Open 10.

We would like to thank everyone for the support and the opportunity for being part of this prestigious event.
