Disability Month is an opportunity for disabled individuals to share their experiences and give advice. Bernadette Rigney was interviewed by a few Radio Stations around SA. She shares the questions…
1) Why are 2% targets consisting of staff with disabilities not reached for many companies? What are the retention strategies?
There are many reasons why staff with disabilities resign, such as Transportation, Accessibility in buildings etc.
2) How do we train learners to become Entrepreneurs should they be unsuccessful in landing jobs.
There is a range of Entrepreneurial Courses for Companies and Job Coaching. Corporates are providing many opportunities to become suppliers and provide services, it’s time for Disabled Entrepreneurs to take these opportunities and work with all Sectors.
3) What are the benefits of remote offices and virtual communication?
Instead of competing for ideal-priced office locations (and space) in major cities, many companies are finding a new and inventive way of lowering overhead costs. Another added plus is the success in building a best-in-class recruitment operation for hiring top-line employees from across the country with virtual companies. Remote-based companies are finding talent far superior to what is available in a crowded and competitive hyper-local field.
4) How does Society benefit?
Millions of women with professional skills and creativity that could be enhancing our business culture, is stay at home moms. Unfortunately, because of the lack of flexible options for moms, many of these women choose to leave the workforce completely — often not entirely by choice, but out of necessity. Skilled Disabled individuals become less reliant on Social Welfare and more self-sustainable with flexible secure jobs. Businesses grow, job creation doubles in numbers without costing Companies larger office space. Accessibility for disabled staff on the premises can cost large amounts, every disability is unique and requires different assistive devices. Public Transport for Disabled staff members becomes a challenge and results in individuals resigning.
5) How do we book the Workshops?
We share dates on our Pages and the Website www.fability.co.za. You can email your requests to email@example.com. The goal is to work with individuals and reach their full potential. Fability has a broad Network which allows us to give individuals a chance to meet Sectors to allow them to succeed in Business – from Corporate, Government to the Modelling and Entertainment industries.
6) How do you reach your Youth market?
I have been involved with school programs since 2008 in rural and urban areas.
7) What can we expect from Fability in 2017?
Fability is a broad inclusive Company. Our aim is to break the stereotype of disability. We will run programs to empower and share technology. Our motto is to create platforms for all to Live Life Fabulously. We have an exciting year ahead.

Always believe in yourself. Life can get so tough, but never stop believing.
