Transport Month Campaign: EcoMobility 20 October 2015
On Tuesday, 20 October 2015, SABC Radio 2000, along with members of the Gauteng Office of the Premier, City of Johannesburg, Gauteng Department of Transport, Gautrain, Rea Vaya, Fability, and several celebrities, embarked on a ride in support of Transport Month. The aim was to showcase the efficiency of our public transport system and highlight its disability-friendly features.
All participants gathered at SABC Radio Park at 07h15am, the first stop was Pretoria Hatfield and back via Sandton to SABC, utilizing Rea Vaya and Gautrain for the journey. Radio 2000 and SABC News followed the entire journey, reporting point-to-point from start to finish.
“An efficient, universally accessible public transportation system is vital to enable everyone to get from their homes to places of work. It is a challenge for people with disabilities to commute from their homes to prospective places of work without such a system,” stated Radio 2000 Senior Content Producer, Doug Anderson.
“Public Transport is not a luxury but a necessity for persons with disabilities. That is why it is essential to improve it,” emphasized Fability CEO Bernadette Rigney.
“Modernize public transport and infrastructure for people with disabilities in Gauteng City Region,” urged Director in the Premier’s Office, Zain Bulbulia.
